… I’d never have imagined I’d be living just across town and playing in the Meridian band. But then I came across this photo from the day before. Seems pretty unassuming, but it’s emblematic of one of, if not the most traumatic days in my life. 3/Permalink On twitter.com

March 2, 2018 was the day an off-duty, out of state police officer saw fit to bring his gun to a university campus (where it was prohibited) to pick up his son in the midst of a mental crisis. 4/Permalink On twitter.com

He and his wife were killed by their son with that gun, and a campus and community were terrorized for hours, not yet knowing all those details, only that someone was at large after having shot two people in a residence hall. 5/Permalink On twitter.com

Those corn bread waffles, made with leftover supplies from a recent chili cook off we had in the office were the best we could do for lunch as we sheltered in our basement office, not knowing what was happening outside, but trying to keep things running so the world would know 6/Permalink On twitter.com

Eventually the risk was deemed low enough for us to go home, and the young man was found & has since been receiving the care he needs. But if it wasn’t for someone thinking they could carry a gun everywhere with total impunity none of this would have happened. 8/8On twitter.com
