March 2, 2018 was the day an off-duty, out of state police officer saw fit to bring his gun to a university campus (where it was prohibited) to pick up his son in the midst of a mental crisis. 4/

He and his wife were killed by their son with that gun, and a campus and community were terrorized for hours, not yet knowing all those details, only that someone was at large after having shot two people in a residence hall. 5/

Those corn bread waffles, made with leftover supplies from a recent chili cook off we had in the office were the best we could do for lunch as we sheltered in our basement office, not knowing what was happening outside, but trying to keep things running so the world would know 6/

Eventually the risk was deemed low enough for us to go home, and the young man was found & has since been receiving the care he needs. But if it wasn’t for someone thinking they could carry a gun everywhere with total impunity none of this would have happened. 8/8
